That’s why I’m outraged about a recent edition of TV One’s “Washington Watch” in which host Roland Martin and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) compared state-level voter identification rules to Jim Crow.

To the contrary, requiring valid identification in exchange for something as sacred as a ballot is a pragmatic approach to governing.

On the last Sunday in September, in a front-page article, The New York Times reported that the Democrats’ strategy against Republicans in 2010 would be to use aggressive attacks on personal issues in an attempt to “save” their elections. The Times reported that Democrats across the country have been instructed to avoid discussing their fiscally irresponsible policies, and to run “negative advertising against Republicans using lawsuits, tax filing reports – and even divorce proceedings to try to discredit their opponents.”

This is exactly what Governor Lynch and the Democrats are trying to do in New Hampshire. In an effort to change the subject from the disastrous results of his inept spend-and-tax policy and from the debilitating national burden of trillion dollar deficits, the Governor and his State Party have unleashed the attack experts of their political committees to do their usual distract-and-destroy messaging.

We see those efforts in the dishonest phone “push polling” they have started against fiscally conservative NH State Senate candidates. John Lynch himself is running ads against John Stephen that attempt to dishonestly malign his character. In the Congressional races, Carol Shea-Porter and Ann Kuster are using false personal attacks, and in the Senate race, Paul Hodes is trying to smear Kelly Ayotte with untrue distortions.

We must remember, this is the standard procedure of the John Lynch’s State Party since he started running for Governor. Lest it be forgotten, Governor John Lynch won his 2004 election against the then incumbent Governor with a campaign based on extreme personal attacks on his opponent. There was virtually no focus on the traditional New Hampshire fiscal issues of spending and taxes. As usual, in that race, Governor Lynch left the tough attacks to his campaign committee. That allowed him to preserve the public image he works so hard to nurture, and to sound conservative.

In 2006 the pattern was the same. They attacked, and Lynch stayed above the fray. And even in the 2008 Obama big wave election, they kept up the personal attacks on all the opposing candidates. Lynch’s committee operatives honed their skills in those races, and for the most part they were able to maintain the attacks with little or no effective opposition.

Now we are in the midst of the 2010 election, and of course, Governor Lynch and his State Party are at it again. For the past year, every time a credible opposing candidate was announced, the Lynch committee attack crew went to work. They pounced when Attorney General Ayotte announced, and even went on the offensive before some of the opposition made formal announcements. And now that John Stephen has emerged as the nominee for Governor, John Lynch is trying to smear him with dishonest ads. He will use any false accusation to move attention away from the abysmal Lynch record.

In the past Democrats have been elected in New Hampshire by using a two-pronged strategy— by sounding like a conservative and by smearing their opponent. The disastrous performances in overspending, overtaxing, and creating a budget problem at both the state and national level should prove to the voters that Democrats might talk-the-talk, but they certainly cannot walk-the-walk. And when voters hear the bile and venom in the Governor’s ads, in the media, in the mail, or over the phone, they should recognize that it is just the Democrats trying to avoid the issues.

The State of New Hampshire and our country have serious problems. Our Republican candidates are trying to focus on policy changes and issues. Kelly Ayotte is running for the Senate committed to continue the strong conservative approach of Senator Judd Gregg. Our Congressional Candidates have targeted cutting the unconscionable growth of Federal spending and ObamaCare as their first priority. And most important Charlie Bass and Frank Guinta will vote to replace Nancy Pelosi as Speaker. And here in New Hampshire, John Stephen is committed to make the tough decisions needed to fix the $800 million hole in the budget. This election is too important to let the Democrats steal it with dishonest political smears.

Chairman
New Hampshire GOP

Dear Friends,

I am asking that you consider the following candidates on November 2nd:

Kelly Ayotte – U. S. Senate: We have all watched Kelly as an outstanding NH General Attorney. She went to no ends to correct any wrong, went before the Supreme Court to return to the parents of NH the right to protect their own children. Kelly will go to Washington to correct the wrong that Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi have brought upon the citizens of this country.

Charlie Bass – U. S. Representative 2nd Congressional District: Was an outstanding U.S. Congressman for the 2nd Congressional District and will do so again. He is a true fiscal conservative and demonstrated this repeatedly while in the Congress. We can count on Charlie to go to Washington and make sure Obamacare is overturned. He will be diligent in policing the misuse of taxpayer’s money.

John Stephen – Governor: This is a man of impeccable integrity, a man who did an outstanding job as head of HHS. John Stephen is man that will lead our state back to fiscal stability.

Tom Eaton – NH Senate: It is a must to return Tom to the NH Senate. Former Senator Eaton brought to Cheshire County and the City of Keene significant programs that will be in use for years to come. First that comes to mind is the Nursing program, then I think of the outstanding new Science Center at KSC. These are but a couple of Tom’s monumental accomplishments.

Sheriff Richard (Dick) Foote – Re-Elect: He has served Cheshire County for 6 terms, Sheriff Foote has established a 24/7 dispatch center that handles more than 40,000 calls for service throughout the county dispatching for all towns but Keene. The communications personnel assist local police departments with computer operations as wells as programming of radios.

Peter Heed – County Attorney: Peter is outstanding in the position as our County Attorney. He is an honest and just man who will make sure that those who have done wrong will be punished, while those who need protection receive all the support they need.

Susan Castor – Register of Probate: She is capable of stepping into the position as Register of Probate with little or no adjustment period. She has been with the Probate office for 12 years, is a Paralegal, and fully understands the needs and demands of the office.

Evelyn S. Hubal – Register of Deeds: Evelyn has held this position for a numbers of years. This position one that can be turned over to anyone, as this department requires one to have a legal knowledge of recording documents that will have a lasting effect on property owners throughout the county. Re-elect Evelyn Hubal!

Peter Delaney (Keene) and Aaron K. Pratt (Troy) – County Commissioner: – These two gentlemen will be the voice of the citizens to the County Commissioners. Over the past ten years the county has spent money without regard to the citizen of Cheshire County – it is time for change.

Fred Parker – County Treasurer: An outstanding citizen, a retired insurance businessman, Fred gives an enormous amount of his time raising funds for the Shrines’ Hospital. He is an honest and capable man for this position.

NH House of Representatives: Robert W. Moore, Jr., (Westmoreland), Whitney Aldrich (Walpole), Anne Cartwright (Alstead), Richard Nalevanko (Alstead) Bill chaffee, Joseph Bendzinski, Maureen Benik Metivier, jack Laurent, Arto Leino (Keene), Carri Brede (Chesterfield), Denis V. Murphy II (Winchester), Edwin O. Smith(Hinsdale), Richard J. Dwinell (Fitzwilliam), John J. Byrnes, Jane B. Johnson, Chester Lapointe, James G. Wall (Swanzey), Susan Emerson, John B. Hunt (Rindge) Charlie More, Franklin W. Sterling Jr., (Jaffrey).

If you agree with me, please pass this email along to all your friends so we can get out the vote!

Thank you,
Marilyn Huston

NH “Surplus” relies on borrowing, transfers
by Grant Bosse

(CONCORD) – Governor John Lynch yesterday announced that the state ended Fiscal Year 2010 with a $70 million surplus, but that figure includes both new debt and an $80 million transfer from the current fiscal year. The unaudited “surplus statement” comes from the Department of Revenue Administration. Lynch claims that the “surplus” came about from “our strong fiscal management”, but the real reason the state balance sheet appears balanced is because lawmakers approved a number of tactics to artificially inflate FY10′s bottom line at the expense of future years.

“Here’s the truth: Not only did Democrats suspend revenue aid to cities and towns, they stole money from rooms and meals revenue sharing with cities and towns. We were fortunate early this year to convince enough Democrats in the House to restore $5 million to cities and towns in rooms and meals revenues, but it was scuttled by Democrats in the Senate. If Speaker Norelli thinks that education funding is solved, she must have a vat of Kool-Aid nearby as she brought back donor towns and the likelihood of further funding lawsuits against our state. And the pension fund she mentions? Well, it’s over a billion dollars in the red, and when Republicans and many Democrats tried to work to reform the system, the unions threatened and Norelli and her party backed down.”
